Creating your master

CD-ROM production is a highly specialised field. Any programmer can compile information onto a CD-ROM, however, it takes careful planning, technical know-how and artistic flair to take full advantage of all the facets this exciting multimedia vehicle can offer.

A custom-designed interface enables seamless navigation through the vast array of organised information using menus, compressed video, presentation slides, voice-over, dynamic colour graphics, backing music and interactive live screens.

Some applications for the use of CD-ROM technology include company profile, sales and marketing, training and product presentation.

CD Production can be as simple or sophisticated as you need depending on your requirements. Once we have your brief we can recommend the type of interface (menu system to access the content on the CD) best suited to your needs.

Web-browser - this type of interface resembles a web-browser providing all the functionality this great media allows. It gives the user the flexibility to surf not only the CD, but live Internet sites seamlessly from the CD program. This prevents the CD from ever being obsolete as updated information can be linked directly from the CD to your web-site. Users can even email from this type of CD.

Simple Menu - this interface is cost effective as there is minimal programming required to present your information. You may decide to digitally compress your corporate video upon insertion of the CD and end with a contact page, or present a slide show.

Menu-driven - this type of interface is perfect for electronic brochures or catalogues allowing as many tiers as required to access your content. It can include music, videos, voice-over, animation, slides, forms etc.

Interactive Style - you may want your CD menu system to display animation and sound.

Once you have approved the final production, your CD is ready to be produced in the quantities required. The size of the CD is an option you may like to think about, depending on the amount of information you have.

  • Business Card CD - 30Mb
  • 8cm CD - 180Mb
  • 12cm CD - 650Mb/700Mb

There are also many packaging options available:

Jewel case - allows for extra printed materials to be included with the CD. A multi-paged printed booklet can be positioned into the front cover of the case and a printed tray card in the rear cover.

Vinyl sleeves - these lightweight sleeves are perfect if you want your CD surface print to show through and avoid further printing costs.

Teabags - these are paper sleeves with a clear plastic window to expose the printing on the surface of the CD. As they are light in weight they are cost-effective when mailed.

Cardboard sleeves - this packaging is available in different sizes and perfect for mailout campaigns.

Plastic holder or rubberised glue - this packaging is popular when including a CD with a brochure or magazine.

Duplication

When copies are required in small quantities, CD-writers are used to create your disc and verify the information. CD-R labelling can be provided in 2 ways:

  • Inkjet print directly onto the CD-R surface
  • Screen print directly onto the CD-R surface

Inkjet printing is the simplest method used to label your CD-R however the colours are limited. We can design your artwork or you can supply these files in TIFF, BMP, PSD, PCX or Corel file format.

We are able to produce more complex prints for screen printing however it is more costly and takes extra time. Colour separated films are required for this printing method - we'd be happy to produce these films for you.

CD Replication

If you require hundreds of discs to be replicated, the process to create these is somewhat different to that used in the duplication procedure.

Your disc is checked for viruses and conformity before production is commenced. A glass master is then created in the mirror-image of your master CD-R. This is then "pressed" to create your CD copies.

Screen printing is the method used to print on the surface of the CD. As mentioned in the duplication process, colour separated films from artwork are required for screen printing.

Uses of CD-ROMs

CD-ROMs are a wonderfully simple method of delivering your message in a compact and relatively inexpensive way. Some of the ways our clients have utilised this technology are listed below:

Conference CD - Include many details about the conference including the layout of the conference floorplan, agenda, keynote and presentation speaker biographies, copies of presentations, whitepapers and videos.

Product update CD - Update staff or resellers on product information, technical data and schematics when upgrades or new products come out.

Catalogue CD - This is the perfect tool to sort your product or information so that it can be readily located and accessed. Thumbnails can be created for easy product or category recognition.

Web-site on CD - The perfect way to maximise the return on your web investment is to copy your web-site to CD for distribution.

Company portrait on CD - This is a very useful tool to portray your company image, perhaps in the instance when your clients are not local but interstate or overseas. It can include video messages from key people or departments in your organisation.

Video on CD - We can compress your existing corporate or product video onto CD. This is particularly useful when looped for use at an exhibition or trade show or to demonstrate the use of a product.

This method is very convenient for presentation at a conference, business meeting, wedding anniversary, birthday or special occasion.

If you don't have an existing video, we can help with your video production requirements. See the Video section on this website.

Training or staff induction CD - The perfect way for an employee to work through training or company induction is through a self-paced program on CD. Supervision or testing of sections can be emailed for monitoring or reporting if required.

Demonstration CD - You may wish to sample your audio files or performance as a music CD for audition or demonstration purposes.
